Barbecue is a Texas tradition. You won’t find more tender meats or more delicious sauces anywhere outside of Texas. Houston is America’s fourth-largest city and it is located just over an hour west of Sour Lake. Space City is home to some of the country’s best barbecue joints. If you take your Ford out to Houston for a weekend, be sure to check out some of these great barbecue restaurants:
Beef ribs, brisket, bone-in pork belly, fried chicken and more come together in Chef Ronnie Killen’s famous smokehouse. Stop by Killen’s on a Tuesday for the brisket tacos, on a Sunday for the sought-after fried chicken, or any day for the dry-aged brisket. For dessert, grab a slice of cake or pie, or try the banana or bread pudding.
Greg Gatlin’s restaurant is known for its ribs, and they promise not to leave you disappointed; only wanting to come back for more. Dishes range from St. Louis-style spare ribs and wings to pulled pork and burgers. Sides include cucumber salad, creamed corn, baked beans, and collard greens.
Jackson Street BBQ
The fried mac and cheese and the dirty rice side options alone are enough reason to chow down at Jackson Street BBQ. Try the smoked brisket, German-style sausage, or barbecue chop salad paired with jalapeno cheddar biscuits or cole slaw. Conclude it on a sweet note with a slice of pie or a chocolate chip cookie.
