In April, the all-new Mustang Mach-E appeared at the Geico 500 from Talladega Superspeedway, making it the second Ford electric vehicle to make its debut at a NASCAR Cup Series race. While the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E did not compete, it served as the pace car, setting an electrifying tone for the race.
The electric Mustang Mach-E leading the way must have been a good omen for the Ford team, as Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski ultimately win the race in overtime. Ford driver Matt DiBenedetto helped set Keselowski up for the win with a last-minute move, opening up the bottom lane in the last lap. This race marked Keselowski’s first win of the 2021 season and his sixth overall at Talladega Superspeedway, as well as Ford’s tenth victory out of the last 12 races at Talladega.
After DiBenedetto had a chance to drive a Mustang Mach-E, he praised the EV’s impressive power and throttle response. According to DiBenedetto, “It was something that I 100 percent wanted to own for myself or my wife because when you hop in the car it’s nice and quiet… It was a blast.”

The VIN is a set of numbers of letters that identifies a specific vehicle. Each section of the code signifies what brand it is, the model year, some of its features, and finally which production number it has. Recently, Ford auctioned off VIN 001 for both the Bronco and Mustang Mach 1. Together, these vehicles brought in $1,575,000 for charity.
Ford sold these unique models at the 2021 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale. The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 went first. It was wearing a Fighter Jet Gray color and came equipped with the Handling Package. When all was said and done, it went for a price of $500,000. This money goes to JDRF, which leads the fight against type 1 diabetes.
The next day, the 2021 Ford Bronco First Edition VIN 001 hit the block. The bidding was more intense for this two-door model in a bold Lightning Blue color. It came in the top-tier Badlands trim with the added excitement of the Sasquatch Package. After a flurry of bids, the Bronco earned an impressive $1,075,000. These funds will head towards the National Forest Foundation and Outward Bound.
With these latest auction results, Ford and Barrett-Jackson have raised nearly $13.5 million for charities for the past 15 years.
While we don’t have VIN 001 of the Bronco and Mustang Mach 1, we do have other VIN options available. Contact us at Sour Lake Ford for more information.
The automotive world is changing in some major ways. One of the most prominent trends to emerge is the increasing electrification of vehicles across the industry. Ford has never been one to follow others, but rather one set the pace for everyone else. So, it should come as no surprise that it just announced plans to invest a staggering $22 billion in EV production.
This is double the initial amount of $11 billion Ford pledge to invest in EVs back in 2018. Since then, a number of new electric innovations have emerged, from both within the Ford brand and outside of it, necessitating even more investment in emission-free models.
In just the past year, Ford introduced a remarkable new EV in the form of the Ford Mustang Mach-E. This vehicle is a radical departure from the traditional Mustang marque, as it is not only an SUV, but also an all-electric vehicle. Somehow, it still manages to maintain the world-famous pony car’s sporty performance.
The Mustang won’t be the only iconic Ford model to receive an all-electric option, as production on an electric version of the best-selling Ford F-150 truck is set to begin later this year. In addition to the $22 billion commitment for the production of electric vehicles, Ford is also pledging $7 billion for the development of autonomous driving technologies.
With all of the exciting new technological developments coming from our favorite automaker, all of us at Sour Lake Ford can’t wait to see what’s coming next. To experience Ford’s innovation firsthand, pay us a visit at our location in Sour Lake, Texas.

The 2021 Ford F-150 surpassed its competitors and won the prestigious Freep award, thanks in part to its best-in-class 14,000 pounds of towing capacity and its class-exclusive 3.5-liter PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6. This available engine delivers 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, while also being fuel-efficient.
Freep also appreciated the technologies of the 2021 F-150, like its future Active Drive Assist hands-free system and the segment-exclusive Over-the-Air Updates of its SYNC® 4 system. The truck’s available Interior Work Surface and comfortable Max Recline Seats also gave it a leg up over competitors.
In addition, author Mark Phelan noted that the F-150 has some features that, despite being overlooked by the competition, ultimately helped the truck win the award. These include a tailgate with a built-in measuring stick and c-clamp receivers as well as longer running boards that go behind the cab to provide easier bed access.

The upcoming Ford F-150 Raptor is expected to be an even more powerful and off-road capable vehicle than the current generation. In fact, rumors suggest that this rugged truck will have a spirited engine that surpasses even the engine of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that delivers best-in-class 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. However, the next generation of the Ford F-150 Raptor may soon take away the Ram truck’s best-in-class titles with its new engine.
The F-150 Raptor might add the supercharged 5.2-liter V8, which could pump out anywhere from 725 horsepower to 750 horsepower, making for a more enjoyable drive than the Ram 1500 TRX offers. This engine currently comes standard on the athletic 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500®.
Other rumors suggest that the F-150 Raptor will have an updated coil spring setup in place of its leaf spring suspension. This would allow the truck to better compete with the Ram 1500 TRX, which has a five-link coil suspension.
The Ford F-150 Raptor may have limited availability in the 2021 model year or arrive in the 2022 model year. Stay tuned to our blog for more updates on this truck, or give us a call at Sour Lake Ford in Sour Lake, Texas, if you’d like to get your hands on the current F-150.
